To Our CYHA Hockey Community:
CYHA has been informed by USA Hockey and NYSAHA that it has decided to cancel all national and state tournaments due to concerns about the coronavirus (COVID-19), concerns that, nationwide, have led to governmental directives requiring local tournaments to be canceled or curtailed; played in rinks and/or rink facilities emptied of all families and spectators; and other significant restrictions. The cancellation of nationals and states was, in the final analysis, taken to avoid putting at risk our players, coaches, officials and others by traveling to and attending nationals and states.
Other major hockey tournaments have already been canceled, and similar cancellations have occurred and are being considered in other sports; to say nothing of similar actions being taken by businesses, schools and colleges, governmental offices, houses of worship and other venues and events.
Due to governmental directives aimed at stemming the spread of and threats associated with coronavirus and USA Hockey and NYSAHA communications, effective immediately, the CYHA Board of Directors has decided to implement a ‘CYHA Travel Ban Policy’ for ALL CYHA Teams/Membership traveling for games and/or tournaments until further notice. We encourage everyone to cancel your hotel/travel plans immediately. These concerns are exceptionally serious, and the CYHA Board notes that the World Health Organization yesterday declared coronavirus to be a global pandemic.
The CYHA Board wishes everyone a safe and healthy Spring and Summer, and hopes that next season we can avoid the disruptions we have experienced over the past few months.
